Middle East Conflict and International Law - The Responsibility of German Universities

On July 22, 2025 at 7 pm (admission 6 pm) at Restaurant Akropolis (Baumeisterstraße 18, 76137 Karlsruhe), we are hosting a panel discussion that will explore the question of what obligations German universities should have towards partners that violate international or human rights standards.
Moderated by Ingo Laubenthal, member of IEAT (Initiative for Ethical Academic Ties), three experts will provide insights: Dr. Shir Hever, political economist and author of the books The Political Economy of Israel's Occupation (2010) and The Privatization of Israeli Security (2017); Rana Issazadeh, lawyer specializing in migration law, skilled labour immigration law, labour migration and international refugee law and member of the Saarbrücken Integration Advisory Board; and Prof. Ulrich Duchrow, emeritus professor at the University of Karlsruhe. Ulrich Duchrow, Professor Emeritus of Systematic Theology and Social Ethics at the University of Heidelberg and co-founder of the Kairos Europa network.

Am 22. Juli 2025 um 19 Uhr (Einlass 18 Uhr) im Restaurant Akropolis (Baumeisterstraße 18, 76137 Karlsruhe) veranstalten wir eine Podiumsdiskussion, die der Frage nachgeht, welche Verpflichtungen deutsche Hochschulen gegenüber Partnern haben sollten, die gegen völker- oder menschenrechtliche Standards verstoßen.
Unter der Moderation von Ingo Laubenthal, Mitglied des IEAT (Initiative for Ethical Academic Ties), geben drei Expert*innen Einblicke: Dr. Shir Hever, Politökonom und Autor der Bücher The Political Economy of Israel's Occupation (2010) und The Privatization of Israeli Security (2017); Rana Issazadeh, Rechtsanwältin mit Schwerpunkt Migrationsrecht, Fachkräfteeinwanderungsgesetz, Arbeitsmigration und internationales Flüchtlingsrecht sowie Mitglied des Integrationsbeirats Saarbrücken; und Prof. Ulrich Duchrow, emeritierter Professor für Systematische Theologie und Sozialethik an der Universität Heidelberg sowie Mitbegründer des Netzwerks Kairos Europa.
